  In 1st Timothy 2:1 (KJV): I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men

  Do you think Paul is telling Timothy to pray for every single man on earth? How many did he know by name? Do you think he asked him to pray for the species? Could he be using the phrase "all men" in a generic sense? Could he be asking him to pray for all types (old men, young men, wise men, simple men, men of authority, servents, slaves, free men, rich, poor, women, children, ...) of men?

  This whole passage seems to hinge on this phrase " For if we sin wilfully ". Do you think there are true believers that will do this? I don't see anything here that explicitly says "rejecting the Gospel"

  I believe this passage is comparing the law of Moses and the law of grace

  What more can God give, than grace? If you continued to willfully sin under the law, you needed to offer another sacrifice. If you continue to willfully sin under grace, there is no more sacrifice.

  I'm not disagreeing with you on the fact that unbelievers are more severely punished, based on the amount of light they receive. I guess our problem is weather or not a person is called just because they were enlightened.

  Acts 4:25-28

  Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

  Verse 28 in the NASB says: to do whatever Thy hand and Thy purpose predestined to occur.

  I think is safe to say most of these people (I include the Pharisees and Sadducees in this group) were not all called by the father to receive grace, but they were enlightened. They were predestined to sin and crucify our Lord.

  Do you mean individuals like Martin Luther? He was tormented by his faith until he found election in the scriptures. For me it is very comforting to know that my salvation is by Gods' will, not mine. If someone has difficulties with "assurance of faith", that person should not worry about their ability to please God, but Gods' ability to keep His promises.

  Anywho, look at what JAMES R. WHITE says those verses in his book, "The Potter's Freedom"
  

  Every believer must ask this question. Is it by my act of free will, or God's act of free will, that I am in Christ Jesus? It is not enough to limit God's free will to making a plan available. The question is not "Is God ultimately the source of the plan of salvation?" Even the Judaizers in Galatia, who were placed under the curse of God as false teachers in Galatians 1:6-9, could say that. The question is, Who, ultimately, is responsible for my union with Jesus Christ? God is both the one who is the origin and source of salvation in general, and the one who powerfully, purposefully, and perfectly draws His elect people into blessed union with Jesus Christ. The Arminian simply cannot allow this freedom to God. The Scrpture knows no other doctrine. Paul knew this truth doctrinally and experientially:

  But when God, who had set me apart even from my mother's womb, and called me through His grace, was pleased t o reveal His Son in me, so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood: (Galatians 1:15-16) If anyone knew that the idea of "free will" was a myth, it was Paul. It was not free will that knocked Paul to the ground on the road to Damascus. It was not free will that blinded him. Paul was not "seeking after God" nor the Savior, Jesus Christ on that day when God chose to reveal His Son to him. No, God determined the day and the hour, and Paul was only happy to oblige. He preached a powerful grace, a grace that saves rebel sinners hard of heart, a grace that stops the elect in their tracks and changes them. He knew nothing of a grace that tries and tries, and fails and fails. It is powerful grace, purposeful grace, sovereign grace that lies at the base of his words to Titus:

  He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom H e poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, (Titus 3:5-6)

  Saving grace that brings the gift of faith. A mighty God who saves His elect. This is the biblical presentation.

  Dog, didnt Jesus shake Lazarus a little bit and whisper in his ear "hey Im enlighting you, would you like to get up now"???

  I don't know. If he didn't come forth would the crowd have thought "I guess he said No"

  I wonder if he slapped him around a few times to show everyone he was dead.

  Seriously though, I think another good scripture would be John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

  It's a shame, that more pastors and bible teachers don't take the time to explain what this means and talk about how desperate our situation is when it comes to our sin.

  LT I would say it was an acknowledgement or just an expression of gratitude. It really doesn't matter. I didn't see that I had any choice to make. If you get a statement from your creditors saying "your bills have already been paid" It's a little late to say too your creditors don't take the money. D Dog
